Flicker Perimetry in Ocular Hypertensives: Evidence for High- and Low-Sensitivity Defects

Abstract

Recently there has been an accumulation of evidence suggesting that flicker sensitivity can be abnormally high in some ocular hypertensives,1-3 as well as in some low-tension glaucoma patients.4,5 While little is known about the basis for these abnormalities, it has been suggested that they may be the result of abnormalities in the effective adaptation state of the retina.5 To further the understanding of these highsensitivity flicker abnormalities, we present data from a three-year study of Temporal Modulation Perimetry (TMP) in ocular hypertensives and glaucoma patients.
