Abstract

Distributed Raman amplification (DRA) has emerged as an enabling technology for long-haul optical transmission without electrical regeneration [1]. Recent improvements in optical components, in particular low-cost packaging of high power pump lasers, has opened the path for the introduction of low-cost Raman amplifiers in cost-sensitive regional network applications.
