Abstract

Demand for Ethernet interfaces and transport has been increasing and is expected to continue to increase. Service providers would like to support new Ethernet services to attract new customers and to provide stickiness for current customers. In today’s competitive environment however, it is crucial to offer these services cost-effectively. For traditional service providers, attempting to carry new Ethernet services over legacy SONET/SDH transport networks may not be cost-effective. Fortunately, new technologies are emerging that can meet a traditional carrier’s network needs while also offering cost-effective transport of Ethernet services.
