The value of multiple degree ROADMs on metropolitan network economics

Abstract

We compare alternative ROADM network architectures through a study based on real LEC data. We show that optimally deployed higher-degree ROADMs with optical bypass and grooming can simultaneously reduce the cost of both the optical and SONET layers.
