Generation of RZ-DPSK using a Chirp-Managed Laser (CML)

Abstract

We generate RZ-DPSK at 2.67 Gb/s using a directly modulated chirp-managed laser (CML), comprising a DFB laser and optical filter. The CML has comparable performance to a LiNbO3 transmitter with separate phase-coding and pulse-carving modulators.
