Bandwidth and Distance Dependences of Depolarization-Induced Crosstalk in Polarization-Multiplexed Transmission

Abstract

We present an analytical expression of depolarization-induced crosstalk in polarization-multiplexed transmission caused by second-order PMD. The crosstalk depends on the fourth power of the bandwidth and the square of distance. These scalings are confirmed experimentally.
