Instabilities in Ultrashort Pulse Dye Lasers

Abstract

Pulse train instabilities have been reported in a large number of mode-locked lasers. We review the experimental work to date for ultrafast dye lasers and present a simple, analytic model that qualitatively describes certain phenomenology present in synchronously pumped mode-locked dye lasers.
