Abstract

An analysis of the non-linear behavior of an hybrid bistable optical device (BOD) implemented with electrooptic modulators is presented in the limit when the input laser beam is pulsed and a one period delay is introduced in the feedback loop.

Experimental and numerical results are described showing period doubling route to chaos, type I intermittence and bi- and multi-stability, when the feedback loop parameters are changed.

Input optical pulse shape is preserved even when the system is operating in chaotic mode. Electronic delays only limit the maximum repetition rate.
