Abstract

In this paper we present numerical solutions for a partial differential equation (PDE) model1 for the dynamics of a twin stripe semiconductor laser array. The model includes carrier diffusion and the effects of propagation. A coupled-mode ordinary differential equation (ODE) model2 is then derived from this PDE model. The two models are compared in predicting the dynamical behavior of the laser array. We obtain good qualitative and quantitative agreement between the two models. The results obtained can be readily extended to larger arrays.
