Abstract

In this work, we consider the bandwidth limitations in soliton wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) transmission systems [1, 2]. The present analysis suggests different methods to overcome two of the main sources of instability that limit the available optical bandwidth, namely third-order dispersion (TOD) and resonant soliton-soliton collisions [6, 4, 5]. In refs.([2, 4, 5]), this last limitation was removed by tapering the group-velocity-dispersion (GVD) of the fiber according to the periodic energy loss in-between amplifiers.
