Abstract

Quadratic solitons were observed a few years ago during second harmonic generation in both bulk crystals (2D) and planar waveguides (1D)[1,2]. They consist of strongly coupled fundamental and harmonic fields which propagate locked together in space without diffraction due to a combination of the cascaded nonlinearity and the strong inter-beam coupling inherent in SHG.
