Abstract
To obtain quasi-phase-matching it is sufficient merely to achieve a periodic modulation of the nonlinear coefficient, particularly if the nonlinear coefficient itself is large. We address two methods of implementing this in semiconductors using quantum well disordering: modulation of an induced nonlinearity (e.g., asymmetric heterostructure) and modulation of a bulk-like nonlinearity by blue-shift of the band-edge.
