Abstract
To meet the present demands of system builders, we are attempting to develop massive (many hundreds of Gbit/s total capacity) WDM at per-channel rates of 10 Gbit/s or higher, robust and error-free over transoceanic distances. We believe that this can be done only by combining the very best version of dispersion-managed solitons, sliding-frequency filters, and fibers with improved (low-slope) dispersion characteristics. Experimental results will be reviewed.
