Femtosecond nonlinear polarization evolution from cascade quadratic processes

Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate strong amplitude modulation of 100 fs pulses with nonlinear polarization evolution based on type-I second-harmonic generation. Applications of this process to mode-locking of bulk and fiber lasers is promising and will be discussed.
