Abstract

We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that a quasi-one-dimensional vector-soliton stripe composed of a fundamental and first-order beams breaks up into an array of dipole-mode solitons due to the vectorial transverse modulational instability. This effect proves a robust nature of the dipole-mode vector solitons as fundamental composite structures of incoherently coupled fields.
