Giant nonlinearities via simultaneous electromagnetically- and self-induced transparencies in doped photonic crystals

Abstract

Photonic crystals doped with resonant atoms allow for an efficient cross-coupling between pulses exhibiting electromagnetically induced transparency and self-induced transparency gap solitons. These features may find applications in high-fidelity classical and quantum optical communications.
