Modulational instability in an optical ring cavity filled with right-handed and left-handed materials

Abstract

From the Maxwell equations, we derive the equations of propagation in a Kerr nonlinear left-handed metamaterial and show that a cavity filled with right-handed and left-handed materials exhibits bistable behavior and spatial modulational instability.
