Abstract

Efficient second harmonic generation (SHG) of 1.06 pm light in Ge- and II P-doped silica core single mode fibers was first reported by Osterberg and Margulis, who suggested that phosphorus is a major participant.1 Subsequently, Saifi and Andrejco found that SHG could also be induced in fibers with only Ge-doping in the core, but not in P-doped or pure silica core fibers2, indicating that Ge is necessary for SHG generation.
