Abstract

In a recent publication1 we have shown that in a nonlinear quasiperiodic system (consisting of nonlinear slabs A and B arranged in a Fibonacci sequence) switching between the states of low and total transmission is possible. In this paper we trace the origin of total transmission to the excitation of gap solitons2 in the structure. We also report the scaling properties of the solitons with respect to the system size and show that the solitons pertaining to strucures with different sizes are self-similar.
