Cross-phase-modulation-induced nonelastic collisions of optical solitons

Abstract

A new class of problems has recently appeared; nonelastic interaction of solitons at different polarization states or different wavelengths. Recently[1] it was predicted that the so-called effects of shadows should appear in the process of collisions between solitons in birefringent fibres. The same behaviour is observed in computer simulations of NLSE solitons at different wavelengths in single-mode fibres[2].
