Abstract

The intensity induced nonlinearity of semiconductors and glasses have shown promise in the development of ultrafast all-optical switches[1]. The theoretical aspect of switching in ideal Kerr type nonlinear devices has drawn considerable attention since the introduction of the parallel nonlinear coupler by Jensen[1-3]. These devices included coherent couplers, polarization converters, transistors, and bistable feedback devices.
