Abstract

The optical nonlinear processes at near absorption resonance in an Er-doped fiber have been considered as larger and much slower processes than those in normal single mode fibers[1]. Recently, however, M. L. Stok et al. showed an evidence of fast nonlinear responses in an Er-doped fiber by gererating 900 fs optical pulses at 1.5-μm by the cross phase modulation in their synchronously pumped mode-locked Er-doped fiber laser experiment[2]. In this presentation, we report a measurement method and measured results on fast responses of the nonlinear refractive index, n2, in an Er-doped fiber for pumpingat 527-nm wavelength by using a modified Sagnac interferometric method.
