Abstract

As femtosecond fiber oscillator development matures yielding reliable, daily-use sources of ultrashort pulses[1,2], the focus of current research is increasingly directed towards their applications. To this end we have created a highly-efficient, high-power fiber oscillator/fiber amplifier based source of femtosecond pulses operating in the telecommunication band of 1.55μm, producing pulses with an energy content of 1.4 nJ. This demonstration shows the promise of fiber amplifiers for the generation of ultra-high power pulses.
