Abstract
Multi-wavelength optical sources are a great demand to construct future ultrafast flexible WDM networks. So far, multi-wavelength DFB laser-diode arrays [1], [2] and multiwavelength mode-locked fiber ring lasers with a novel birefringent-cavity have been reported [3]. Recently, another multi-wavelength pulse generation technique utilizing supercontinuum has been demonstrated using a strong Nd:YLF laser pulse at 1.3 μm [4]. This paper reports, for the first time to our knowledge, the laser diode (LD)-pumped supercontinuum (SC) generation in the GHz regime at 1.5 μm and demonstrates a sub-tera bit/s WDM pulse generator that outputs 1.2 nm-spaced, more than 40-wavelength-channel, 5-10 ps pulses at 6.3 GHz.
