Ultrafast Electro-Absorption at the Transition between Classical and Quantum Response

Abstract

We have made the first observation of induced absorption extending ~ 1 eV below the band edge in semiconductors strongly driven by intense ultrafast mid-infrared laser pulses, which we attribute to the dynamical Franz-Keldysh effect.
