Enhanced nonlinear optical response of 1-D metal-dielectric photonic band-gap structures

Abstract

We present a new type of nonlinear optical materials – 1-D metal-dielectric photonic band-gap structures. We designed and built a Cu/SiO2 multi-layer composite demonstrating an unusual combination of high nonlinear optical response and high linear transmission.
