Abstract

Recently, time-integrated four wave mixing (TI-FWM) measurements of high-Q semiconductor microcavities (MCs) have been revealing the physics behind the excitonic optical nonlinearity in quantum wells (QWs). In particular, the influence of exciton-exciton interactions in comparison with the band-filling effect has been evaluated by the polarization dependence of the FWM intensity in upper (UP) and lower polariton (LP) modes [1,2]. Similar evaluation has been shown to be possible by analyzing the phases of the oscillations at the UP and LP modes observed in the TI-FWM signals measured as functions of the time-delay between the excitation pulses [3]. In this work we investigated the TI-FWM of MC polaritons in the presence of static electric field in the QW, focusing on the phase of the oscillations. As a result, it was found that, for the first time, the exciton-exciton interaction can be varied by the change of the static electric field.
