Nonlinear Optics as Novel Probes of Molecular Chirality

Abstract

We demonstrate that second harmonic generation is allowed and phase-matchable in an anisotropic fluid medium if it is chiral, and doubly resonant sum-frequency generation has sufficient sensitivity for in situ detection of chirality in the vibrational transitions of a molecular monolayer.
