Abstract

Nowadays the optical manipulation of microscopic objects is widespread in several research fields; however, the study of the optical pressure in nonlinear and disordered media is still lacking. In this contribution, we give a review of our theoretical and numerical results on the effect of randomness and nonlinearity on optical forces. For random media we find that disorder induced localization enhance the light induced mechanical effects; for nonlinear media we show that an ultra-fast nonlinear polarization may give a negative contribution to the optical pressure.
