Abstract
We present a quantum theory for electron tunneling applied to nanoplasmonic materials in the regime with electromagnetic fields are confined in sub-micron gaps. The theory predicts quantum-based nonlinear effects: two-photon absorption, second- and third-harmonic generation and optical rectification.
