Nonlinear Optical Responses of Photopolymerizable Nanocomposites Dispersed with CdSe Quantum Dots at High Concentrations

We report Z-scan measurements of nonlinear optical responses of photopolymerizable nanocomposite materials dispersed with CdSe quantum dots (QDs) at concentrations as high as 6.8 vol.%. We show that the third- and fifth-order nonlinear refraction coefficients are −1.5×10−2 cm2/GW and 7.0×10−2 cm4/GW2, respectively, at 532 nm for the uniformly cured nanocomposite film with 6.8 vol.% CdSe QD dispersion. We also show that the observed fifth-order nonlinearity is accompanied with the cascaded nonlinear effect and that the induced nonlinearities contain intensity-dependent fast and -independent slow decay components.
