Quantum Dot Semiconductor Disk Lasers: Record Performance Depending on Growth Techniques

Abstract

We investigate the benefits of quantum dots (QDs) as gain media for semiconductor disk lasers. Stranski-Krastanov QDs efficiently reach the shortest sub-200-fs pulses, while submonolayer QDs offer record output powers in continuous wave operation.
