Abstract

Using a lumped model I investigate the stability of pulses in passively mode-locked fibre lasers. It is found that different stability regimes depend critically on the filter width while the dispersion (second and third order) play a more minor role. The origins of the instabilities and their implications for stable systems are discussed.
