Pulse Formation in Mode Locked Lasers

Abstract

We show theoretically and verify numerically that the initial stage of formation of a pulse from perturbed cw in passive mode locked lasers consists of a long and slow buildup where power is transferred in a cascade from lower to higher axial modes.
