Demonstration of Brillouin Lasing in a Silica Microsphere at 2 µm

Abstract

We report the first demonstration of a 2 µm Brillouin laser in a silica micro-sphere. We achieve a lasing threshold of 55 mW and a maximum intracavity laser power of 18 µW.
