Field Demonstration of FSK Transmission at 2.488Gbit/s Over a 132km Submarine Cable Using an Erbium Power Amplifier

Abstract

We report the first use of erbium power amplifiers and low chirp transmission techniques on an operational submarine cable. Two way transmission at 2.488Gbit/s was achieved over an unrepeatered distance of 132km on the UK-Channel Islands No. 7 submarine cable.
