Abstract

Temperature dependence of the performance of Erbium doped fibre amplifiers (EDFA) is an important consideration in practical applications, and is therefore the subject of extensive ongoing study at present [1-4]. These works are all concerned with the temperature dependence of the amplifier gain only. We have recently reported measurements of the temperature dependence of the two other important parameters of the amplifier, namely the bandwidth and the noise [5]. However, a more comprehensive understanding of the temperature dependence of the amplifier performance requires further investigation of other important parameters of the amplifier such as fibre composition, amplifier length and the operating wavelength.
