Abstract

InGaAs-GaAs-InGaP strained QW lasers emitting at 0.98 µm have received a great deal of attention as pumping sources for Er-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA's). Ridge waveguide [1], buried heterostructure [2], and channel guide [3] Fabry-Perot lasers have been reported using this system. However, owing to problems with Fabry-Perot lasers including mode hopping, high power lasers with a better wavelength selectivity such as DFB lasers are highly desirable as pumping sources.
