Low-Noise and Wide-Dynamic-Range Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers with Automatic Level Control for WDM Transmission Systems

Abstract

We demonstrate an EDFA with automatic level control by a newly-developed variable optical attenuator. The output levels of four channels are controlled within 7.5 to 8.1 dBm against input power variation of 10 dB, and low noise figures of 6.9 to 7.2 dB are obtained.
