Abstract

In the case of transoceanic applications, conventional Al2O3-GeO2 codoped erbium-doped fibers (EDFs) exhibit a narrow gain bandwidth, allowing a usable spectral bandwidth of only 3 nm, that is not compatible with future high-bit-rate (≥ 50 Gbit/s) WDM system requirements.
