Optimisation of Frequency Conversion by Four-Wave Mixing in Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers

Abstract

We demonstrate experimentally that the noise and intersymbol interference in semiconductor optical amplifier frequency converters can be optimised by careful adjustment of the optical input power. Power penalties of less than 1 dB are achievable.
