Abstract

A new gain monitoring method for inhomogeneously gain saturated erbium-doped fiber amplifiers used in WDM systems is proposed. By setting signal wavelengths in the range from 1540 nm to 1560 nm, a level of accuracy to within approximately ± 0.2 dB is achieved.
