Effects of Relaxation Oscillations on Transmission Performances in the All-Optical Link-Controlled EDFA Cascade

Abstract

We show that, in an all-optical link-controlled EDFA cascade, power penalty caused by relaxation oscillations from the first gain-clamped EDFA rapidly increases along the link, in contrast to the case of a link in which each amplifier is gain-clamped.
