Simultaneous Compensation of Fast Add/Drop Power-Transients and Equalization of Inter-Channel Power Differentials for Robust WDM Systems with EDFAs

Abstract

Robust WDM transmission systems and reconfigurable networks will require that all the channels be of similar optical power under all operational conditions. Previously, Zyskind et al. reported that saturated cascaded EDFAs exhibit fast output power transients due to adding/dropping of some WDM channels since the output power from the a EDFA for each surviving channel will change to keep the total output power constant [1]
