EDFA without dynamic gain tilt using excited-state trapping

Abstract An EDFA whose intrinsic gain can be changed without dynamic gain-tilt is presented. Multiple excited- states of erbium are used to decouple the magnitude and shape of the gain spectrum of an EDFA containing a low phonon energy glass.
