Signal Substitution Technique for DWDM Optical Amplifier Noise Figure Measurement

A new EDFA noise figure measurement technique for dense-WDM characterization is discussed. In this technique, the source of the channel under test is disabled to provide sufficient spectral space for the measurement of the ASE. The missing saturation power is substituted by adding input power to the neighboring channels.
