Abstract

Nonlinear propagation is reported for dispersion-managed 10 Gbps RZ data patterns in the net anomalous-, zero-, and normal-dispersion regimes. Dynamical evolution of higher-order dispersion-managed soliton behavior is shown, and a novel dispersion management strategy is presented to minimize intersymbol interference during this transient regime. The maximum error-free distance achieved is 12000 km with 100 km EDFA spacing.
