Abstract

Dense WDM Passive Optical Networks are attractive architectures for the implementation of optical fibers in the access network. One of the difficulties could be the ONU opto-electronic component. To avoid the generation of a specific wavelength, we have investigated the use of a single semiconductor laser amplifier/reflector at the ONU. A single SLAR can achieve both. reception and emission functions. We demonstrated the downstream detection function up to 1.5 Gb/s and the upstream reflection-mode operation at 155 Mb/s.
