Abstract

This paper describes various properties of InP based quantum dash semiconductor optical amplifiers operating at 1550 nm. The unique properties of the imperfect inhomogeneous broadening of the gain spectrum will be highlighted in the context of gain, saturation and noise in the linear regime as will be the ability to perform multi THz wavelength conversion using four wave mixing and cross gain modulation.
