Non-Optimality of Distributed Amplification in Presence of Nonlinear Phase Noise

Abstract

We study the optimization of the number of amplifiers in a link of fixed overall length with nonlinear phase noise, and show that bit-error ratio and capacity are optimized by a finite number of amplifiers.
